Dub Kartel

Join us in High Gravity at the Sierra Nevada Taproom in Mills River on Saturday, February 9th from 1pm to 4pm for a free show with Dub Kartel.

It more or less took an act of Jah to bring the Dub Kartel together. On January 12, 2010 a devastating earthquake struck in Haiti. After the Haiti earthquake a group of Allstar Asheville reggae and ska musicians decided to do a fund raiser benefit for Haitian relief. Bringing together Agent Ishi (Strut), Coleslaw (Gnomebirds), Mike W. (Shining Rock, Natural Healing), Jeremy S. (Natural Healing), Tablesaw (Shining Rock, Cosmic Wind ) Horn players Courtney Hall, Sean Singer and JP Furnas (Empire Strikes Brass/Common Foundation), from this initial benefit show the seeds for Dub Kartel were sown. Dub Kartel pays tribute to the golden era of Jamacian music. Drawing on the tradition of Studio One, Treasure Isle and Dub luminaries like King Tubby and Scientist, DK brings a classic roots tradition into the modern era.

The Page Brothers are co-led by guitarist Andy Page and bassist Zack Page. Utilizing a rotating line-up of the finest musicians in Western NC, the group keeps a busy performance schedule in the Southeast. Performing together for over 30 years, the twins’ music-making has brought them to all 50 U.S. states, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, and South America. Collectively they have had the good fortune to perform with notable jazz artists such as Phil Woods, Tony Monaco, Billy Higgins, Delfeayo Marsalis, Babik Reinhardt and many others.
After a successful appearance at Sierra Nevada earlier this year, The Page Brothers return with an amazing band featuring the talents of drummer Jeff Sipe and keyboardist Mike Runyon, and will draw from the catalog of jazz-rock/fusion pioneers. Expect several tunes from Jeff Beck’s iconic “Blow by Blow” album and music by Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and John McLaughlin as well as originals by Page and Runyon.
Acclaimed drummer Jeff Sipe has performed extensively with a wide array of artists including Col. Bruce Hampton, Jimmy Herring, Leftover Salmon, Jeff Coffin, Keller Williams, Warren Haynes and many others. Widely recognized for his drumming proficiency in multiple styles, Sipe brings his technical virtuosity, a solid groove, and creative flair to every playing opportunity.
Keyboardist Mike Runyon performs regularly throughout the region with Metaphonia, the Broadcast, Magnus and others. Runyon has performed some of the most demanding repertoire in the classical idiom and combines his knowledge of rock, jazz and other styles into a unique voice for composing and performance.
