In an effort to quantify and begin reductions, Sierra Nevada joined the California Climate Action Registry. The Registry is a voluntary reporting program that allows us a way to report and certify our GHG emissions. Reporting will draw a picture of the atmospheric impacts of our brewing process and illustrate where the next efficiency program should be focused.
While we are working on attaining 100% energy self-generation and have installed numerous energy efficiency mechanisms around the brewery, there is still a small portion of our electricity that comes from PG&E. In order to reduce the emissions associated with our electricity purchases, Sierra Nevada joined PG&E’s new ClimateSmart Program. ClimateSmart is a voluntary carbon offset program that removes the amount of carbon and other GHG’s associated with the generation of the electricity from the atmosphere. News Release
We have completed and verified our 2006 emissions and have been designated a Climate Action Leader by the California Climate Action Registry. We will continue reporting annual emissions data to The Registry.
Employees are also encouraged to and rewarded for reducing their emissions by riding their bikes to work, to run errands, or just for fun. This not only helps reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and the level of emissions from cars, but promotes a healthy lifestyle.
